I’m a loyal subscriber of Sun Cellular ever since they launched their service in 2003. I was part of the few people who beta-tested their network during those days. Unfortunately, these people don’t care about loyalty. The only thing they want is profit.

I’ve been re-loading my Sun Cellular prepaid sim with P150 text unlimited every month, and just recently the P200 text unlimited variant. I made a mistake this afternoon, instead of converting my prepaid load to Text Unlimited P200, I sent the keyword for Text Unlimited P150. I immediately asked their hotline to cancel my transaction, but instead they gave me cold answer that goes something like this –> “We have your load and you’ll never get it back!”

In other words, they won’t cancel my transaction even though I’ve been a regular user since 2003 and the transaction happened a few minutes before I called their hotline.

Ma’am, we apologize however, once you have converted your load, it is no longer possible to cancel the registration. Also, please be informed that the transaction is self-initiated that triggers the system to convert your load, thus the system automatically capture the type of load you purchased. Thank you.

I encountered a similar problem with Globe Telecom a few years ago and I got my prepaid credits back a few minutes after I called their hotline. Globe even added P250 as a way of saying sorry.

This is not the first time I had problems with Sun Cellular. Their customer service is so bad I don’t even know why I am still a subscriber. Maybe because of their cheap rates. But cheap rates come with a price. Poor service. Poor customer relations.

Then just this afternoon, I learned about Globe Telecom’s new BlackBerry Plans for Christmas. For almost the same amount I am spending on Sun Cellular, I can get a free BlackBerry phone and unlimited mobile surfing. I can even get consumable credits if I get a slightly higher plan.

Most of my friends are on Globe Telecom more than half of them are on BlackBerry. For as low as P599 a month, I get a free BlackBerry phone and unlimited mobile internet. With that, I am no longer limited to SMS. I can send them messages and pictures via BlackBerry Messenger. I can update my Facebook and Twitter accounts.

Unlimited Internet. Unlimited Messaging. Unlimited YM. AND A FREE PHONE! Isn’t that exciting? These are way better than the crappy SMS of Sun. Unlimited nga sila na mura, hindi naman dumadating mga messages!

I’ll be checking out Globe’s BlackBerry offers this Saturday, Christmas Eve. I might as well get one as a gift for myself after years of suffering with Sun. Save me Globe! Save me from Sun!

Press Release:

Have you ever been browsing the web with your BlackBerry handheld, merrily tweeting your updates, when you suddenly hit a red light trying to watch the latest “American Idol” ep on YouTube? It could happen. While your BlackBerry can get you onto most websites free and clear, there’s a small handful of sites that require you to switch on a separate internet access first before getting into the site. The moment you do that, you get billed an additional P 5 for every 15 minutes of web browsing on those sites, using your BlackBerry.

If you’re wondering why this is so, it’s because some content-rich websites may not yet be optimized for a handheld device like your BlackBerry; if you try to browse them, you’d need to switch over to regular internet access to get the best experience.

But those days are gone because Globe is launching Super Surf for Blackberry Max, a new service that gets the CrackBerry addict in you just about anywhere you want to go on the web. With Super Surf for BlackBerry Max, there’s virtually no limit to what you can do online: Email, browse the web, chat with pals via BlackBerry Messenger and even stream your favorite videos on your BlackBerry phone.

Open to both Globe postpaid and prepaid BlackBerry lovers, Super Surf for BlackBerry Max is just P 1500 a month or P300 for 5 days, and will be available till August 18, 2010. And Super Surf for BlackBerry Max works great with Globe’s array of BlackBerry offers, like the top-of-the-line Bold 9700, favored by showbiz and high society, and the collegiate Curve 8520, the back-to-school starter model which comes in ruby-red, snow-white and classic black.

Globe’s Super Surf for BlackBerry Max is also a great add-on to the array of My SuperPlan offers, which means that My SuperPlan customers who own a BlackBerry can easily upgrade their surfing experience by asking for the Super Surf for BlackBerry Max plan.

Martha Sazon, Head of Globe Postpaid, says, “We want to make the internet experience as smooth and worry-free as it can be. Super Surf was designed with that in mind: Giving our customers unlimited and convenient access to the internet content and websites that they love. Now with Super Surf for BlackBerry Max, we are upping the ante and letting them go anywhere they want in cyberspace, no holds barred. We encourage all our BlackBerry users to upgrade their surfing experience with Super Surf for BlackBerry Max.”

Your maxed-out Super Surf experience is just a click away. Register via text by sending BB MAX 300 (5 days) to 8888, for 5 days of unlimited browsing on your Globe BlackBerry handset. And if you want the full 30-day service, just text BB MAX ON (30 days) to 8888.

Is there still room for another? San Miguel Corporation and the Qtel Group of Qatar has just launched another WiMax service in the country under the name wi-tribe.

San Miguel and Qtel have bought ailing Liberty Broadcasting Network and used the company’s license to offer wireless broadband in the country. Liberty Broadcasting Network claims that wi-tribe will be 3 times faster than current 3G technology.

wi-tribe is an international brand as there are also wi-tribe services in Pakistan and Jordan, both operated by Qtel under partnership with local companies.

More info about 4G:

4G is broadband that delivers true wired speeds without wires.

4G is faster because it has more bandwidth.

4G is completely portable so you can enjoy it in your office, so you can bring it to your favorite coffee-shop, or your hang out.

4G is 3 times faster than 3G technology.

4G is the preferred broadband technology that will give you the richer, pleasurable internet experience you truly deserve.

There’s still no information on wi-tribe’s signal coverage and subscription packages. You can check out their website for more updates.

Want an alternative to all those wireless landlines in the market? Introducing, PATALK Prepaid Wireless Landline. It’s being offered by Multimedia Telephony, Inc.

They’re one of the first to offer wireless internet access about 4 or 5 years ago under the name Airnet Personal Wireless Broadband. I remember reading somewhere that they have already merged with BayanTel around September 2007 so I was surprised when I learned about them offering wireless landlines again.

Anyway, I’m selling prepaid kits of PATALK. PATALK operates under a CDMA network so you need to buy a handset from me. Those GSM phones will not work. Well, the good news about PATALK is that the handsets are cheap and cheaper if you buy a bundle.

Features:

Talk all you want with other PATALK subscribers.

Unlimited SMS to all PATALK subscribers.

Only P1.00/min. to call other landline networks

Affordable per minute rates to cellular networks (P7.00/min Globe & SMART)

No requirements needed to apply.-

Calls from a landline number to a PATALK subscriber are FREE

Portable

Available in selected areas in Metro Manila

P100 prepaid load valid for 30 Days! (comes pre-loaded with the handset)

Smart Communications recently introduced Hellow, the Philippines’ first re-loadable IDD card. For as low as Php2.50/minute, anyone can talk to their love ones abroad in over 17 countries. All you need is a cellphone using a Smart or Talk and Text SIM!

Calls to Canada, mainland US, Guam and Hawaii cost only P2.50 per minute.

Calls to Singapore, South Korea, Taiwan, China, Malaysia and Hong Kong cost P5.

Calls to Japan, Australia, the UK, Italy and Thailand, Hellow offers P8 per minute,

Calls to Saudi Arabia and UAE cost P10.

Unlike other IDD services, anyone can avail of the Hellow reloadable IDD card for P30 from any Smart wireless centers and other accredited resellers. Printed on the plastic card are the unique account number and PIN. The Hellow user just needs to key in these numbers when using any Smart or Talk ‘N Text handset. The per-minute charge is deducted from the Hellow account and not from the Smart or Talk ‘N Text handset.

The P30 load that comes with the Hellow reloadable IDD card may be used up to the last P2.50 and subsequent loads come in denominations of as low as P15.

This is a perfect way to say “Hellow” to your love ones abroad, Christmas is just around the corner.

Students of member schools of the University Athletics Association of the Philippines (UAAP) and the National Collegiate Athletics Association (NCAA) gathered in a festive inter-university blowout mounted this weekend by leading wireless Internet provider Smart Bro.

Worthy of a Guinness record title, the huge crowd turn-out in “B Free Day” reached peak excitement as 10,000 units of Smart Bro prepaid wireless modems or ‘dongles’ were given away for free to the students, a first in the marketing initiatives by a wireless broadband company in the country.

This is in line with Smart Bro’s partnership with the two premier collegiate sports leagues, which produced limited editions of Smart Bro Plug Its, dongles designed with the sports team monickers of UAAP and NCAA member schools. These are Adamson University, Ateneo, La Salle, FEU, National University, UE, UST and UP for UAAP. The NCAA member schools are College of St. Benilde (CSB), Jose Rizal University, Letran, Mapua, San Beda, San Sebastian, Philippine Christian University (on leave), and University of Perpetual Help.

“Supporting school sports is one of our advocacies as these provide positive entertainment and promote healthy competition among the youth. Giving away the dongles is our reward to them, in line with Smart Bro’s goal of delivering Internet for all,” explained Smart marketing group head Annie P. Naval.

UAAP Season 72 president Anton Montinola said the league was “happy to be associated with Smart, a quality organization with quality products that cater to the youth, just like the UAAP. We are very thankful for this collaboration.”

On the other hand, NCAA 85th Season chair Jose Mari Lacson said, “We only partner with number one, and this should add spice to what the NCAA is all about, which is that of keeping up with the times.”

The NCAA board’s marketing committee head Henry Atayde also said “it’s about time we introduced something new, young and fresh since we’re the oldest league in the country.” Earnings from the partnership will be used for the scholarship program of CSB, the school he represents.

This first-of-its kind event was a fitting get-together for students as the collegiate sports season moved towards heated final playoffs that will decide the fate of their school teams.

Held at the Megatent in Ortigas Avenue, Pasig City, “B Free Day” thrilled the student crowd with back-to-back performances by popular rock bands Sandwich, Hale and Spongecola; raffle draws; and games and treats reminiscent of school fairs such as bail out jail booth, balloon darts, ball toss, back massages, burgers, beverages and other sponsors’ freebies—all beginning with the letter ‘b’.

Another popular section of “B Free” featured a remount of the successful Smart Bro Broadbandemonium – The Great SMART Bro Sale. The sale brought together major PC brands Acer, Dell, Hewlett-Packard, Lenovo, Neo and Toshiba, which have bundled Smart Bro in some of their latest models, to give buyers the right equipment to enjoy the Internet with Smart Bro’s fast connectivity.

Smart Communications, Inc. recently launched its expanded HSPA network nationwide, from Pagudpud, Ilocos Norte to Digos, Davao del Sur—with many more cellsites expected to go live before 2009 ends. Metro Manila, Cebu, Davao, and other key cities are already covered with seamless, high-speed mobile broadband which provides a subscriber high speeds of up to 5.8Mbps, enabling Smart Bro subscribers to enjoy the fastest wireless broadband service when surfing the internet.
