Have you ever been browsing the web with your BlackBerry handheld, merrily tweeting your updates, when you suddenly hit a red light trying to watch the latest “American Idol” ep on YouTube? It could happen. While your BlackBerry can get you onto most websites free and clear, there’s a small handful of sites that require you to switch on a separate internet access first before getting into the site. The moment you do that, you get billed an additional P 5 for every 15 minutes of web browsing on those sites, using your BlackBerry.

If you’re wondering why this is so, it’s because some content-rich websites may not yet be optimized for a handheld device like your BlackBerry; if you try to browse them, you’d need to switch over to regular internet access to get the best experience.

But those days are gone because Globe is launching Super Surf for Blackberry Max, a new service that gets the CrackBerry addict in you just about anywhere you want to go on the web. With Super Surf for BlackBerry Max, there’s virtually no limit to what you can do online: Email, browse the web, chat with pals via BlackBerry Messenger and even stream your favorite videos on your BlackBerry phone.

Open to both Globe postpaid and prepaid BlackBerry lovers, Super Surf for BlackBerry Max is just P 1500 a month or P300 for 5 days, and will be available till August 18, 2010. And Super Surf for BlackBerry Max works great with Globe’s array of BlackBerry offers, like the top-of-the-line Bold 9700, favored by showbiz and high society, and the collegiate Curve 8520, the back-to-school starter model which comes in ruby-red, snow-white and classic black.

Globe’s Super Surf for BlackBerry Max is also a great add-on to the array of My SuperPlan offers, which means that My SuperPlan customers who own a BlackBerry can easily upgrade their surfing experience by asking for the Super Surf for BlackBerry Max plan.

Martha Sazon, Head of Globe Postpaid, says, “We want to make the internet experience as smooth and worry-free as it can be. Super Surf was designed with that in mind: Giving our customers unlimited and convenient access to the internet content and websites that they love. Now with Super Surf for BlackBerry Max, we are upping the ante and letting them go anywhere they want in cyberspace, no holds barred. We encourage all our BlackBerry users to upgrade their surfing experience with Super Surf for BlackBerry Max.”

Your maxed-out Super Surf experience is just a click away. Register via text by sending BB MAX 300 (5 days) to 8888, for 5 days of unlimited browsing on your Globe BlackBerry handset. And if you want the full 30-day service, just text BB MAX ON (30 days) to 8888.

ASUS Once Again Proves Its Uncanny Ability to Meld Form, Function and Fashion in an Elegant yet Understated Netbook

Since the introduction of the first Eee PC™, ASUS has inched high technology ever closer to high fashion. With the Eee PC™ Seashell Karim Rashid Collection (1008P), ASUS has taken a decisive leap onto the catwalk. Co-conceived by one of the world’s leading designers, the Eee PC™ Seashell Karim Rashid Collection is the realization of Karim’s vision of computing—one that is more sensual, more human, more hip. Completely contemporary and anathema to nostalgia, these netbooks are more daring, more intersecting, and are designed to appeal to young, mobile trendsetters while remaining an accessible luxury to everyone.

The Eee PC™ Seashell Karim Rashid Collection manifests ASUS’ commitment to designing products that appeal to the five human senses, with an emphasis on vision and touch. To achieve this, ASUS’ industrial designers have had to pioneer a plethora of material, production, and textural innovations, such as the combination of rubber paint, in mold roller (IMR), and metallic materials to create thoroughly unique finishes.

Making Waves with the Techno-chic Digi-Wave Design
Karim’s inspired touch is imbued in every inch of the Eee PC™ Seashell Karim Rashid Collection. It is encased from top to bottom in an organic Digi-Wave chassis that is as pragmatic as it is stylish—offering striking looks and robust protection. The rippling lines—which convey a sense of forward movement—adhere perfectly to the golden ratio, bearing testament to the extreme precision required to produce the subtle waves and retain color consistency across the peaks and troughs. The in mold cutting was measured and tested with unprecedented precision by ASUS’ designers, resulting in a gadget that boasts the prestige of a handcrafted product. The perfection of each wave can be perceived with the gentlest of touches.

Innovative Finishes Convey a Touch of Privilege
The Eee PC™ Seashell Karim Rashid Collection reflects Karim and ASUS’ view that function, material, form, performance, texture, color and ease-of-use are inseparable in any object of beauty. It is designed to stimulate all five human senses, including the sense of touch, which is often overlooked in the PC domain. The Eee PC™ Seashell Karim Rashid Collection thus sets itself apart from other netbooks through its innovative finishes that pamper users’ palms and fingertips. The Eee PC™ Seashell Karim Rashid Collection also stands out prominently through its colors—its specific hues, tints and saturations were carefully selected to appeal to tech fashionistas. It is available in bold, glossy Hot Pink or classic, matte Coffee Brown.

No Deficiency in Efficiency
The Eee PC™ Seashell Karim Rashid Collection features a breathtaking design that includes a 10.1″ frameless LED backlit display and an ergonomic chiclet keyboard. This beauty is matched by its computing prowess. It features the new power-saving Intel® Atom™ N450 CPU, which works in tandem with ASUS’ exclusive Super Hybrid Engine energy management technology to deliver 6 hours of battery life on a single charge. The Eee PC™ Seashell Karim Rashid Collection also offers near-instant access to the Internet thanks to the inclusion of Express Gate, an ancillary operating system that boots up in seconds. Express Gate allows users to make Skype calls, surf the web, browse photos, play online games, engage in instant messaging, and much more.

Glossy Hot Pink
Hot Pink is the new black for fashion and a shock of punchy pink is just the thing to brighten any ensemble. This positive and very orgulous color clearly communicates the idea of immateriality, entropy and energy of a strong optimistic presence. The Hot Pink Eee PC™ 1008P—which recalls a fashionable woman strolling down New York’s Fifth Avenue—has a metallic silver bottom layer and a transparent Hot Pink IMR upper layer.

Matte Coffee Brown
Subtle, mature and understated yet elegant, Coffee Brown is timeless and classic—bringing to mind a gentleman sipping coffee at the Café de la Seine, enjoying a relaxing afternoon by reading John Wooden’s poetry. The Coffee Brown Eee PC™ 1008P has two layers: a Coffee Brown bottom layer sprinkled with gold glitter, and a soft-to-the-touch upper layer of translucent rubber paint.

The limited edition of Asus Eee PC 1008P Karim Rashid design is priced at PHP 25,900.00 and available only in select dealer stores: Octagon – MegaMall, Complink – MOA, Villman – North Edsa and Accent Micro Park Square Makati. Accessories sold separately.

Want an alternative to all those wireless landlines in the market? Introducing, PATALK Prepaid Wireless Landline. It’s being offered by Multimedia Telephony, Inc. (MTI), a fully franchised Philippine Telecommunications carrier granted various licenses and authorities by the National Telecommunications Commission (NTC) and operates under the trade name Broadband Philippines.

They’re one of the first to offer wireless internet access about 4 or 5 years ago under the name Airnet Personal Wireless Broadband. I remember reading somewhere that they have already merged with BayanTel around September 2007 so I was surprised when I learned about them offering wireless landlines again.

Anyway, I’m selling prepaid kits of PATALK. PATALK operates under a CDMA network so you need to buy a handset from me. Those GSM phones will not work. Well, the good news about PATALK is that the handsets are cheap and cheaper if you buy a bundle.

Features:

Talk all you want with other PATALK subscribers.

Unlimited SMS to all PATALK subscribers.

Only P1.00/min. to call other landline networks

Affordable per minute rates to cellular networks (P7.00/min Globe & SMART)

No requirements needed to apply.-

Calls from a landline number to a PATALK subscriber are FREE

Portable

Available in selected areas in Metro Manila

P100 prepaid load valid for 30 Days! (comes pre-loaded with the handset)

Internet capable (desktop model) with 128kbps

Now, after showing the technical “prowess” of Lola Techie, Bayan has launched a new campaign called Teach Lola.

The Teach Lola campaign aims to teach the elderly how to use a computer and the internet.

Teach Lola, pioneers the drive towards encouraging the younger generation to take the first step to bridge the digital divide by teaching their grandparents how to get connected to the world through the World Wide Web.

Currently composed of a total of more than 20 volunteers coming from all departments in Bayan, Teach Lola begins the campaign internally with the grandparents of the Bayan employees. After being trained by Learn.ph—Bayan’s teaching partner for the advocacy, the Teach Lola team is set to lead upcoming session and events that are geared in bringing together grandparents and their grandchildren.

And with its thrust of letting the Filipinos voice be heard—even
the elderly—the telco, through Teach Lola, makes it possible for the elderly to not only have a voice in this nternet-driven society but also to bring grandparents and their grandchildren closer together by expanding their communication to more than just special occasions.

I just can’t imagine that one day, my grandma might be playing counterstrike or Mafia Wars but who knows. I’ve already taught her to use Yahoo! Messenger to chat with my aunt in Australia, maybe I’ll start teaching her Pet Society next time.

I wonder if Bayantel’s Lola Techie is really a techie. Because if she really is, then the guys handling her Facebook or Plurk accounts should have replied to Jepoy’s request for GameOPS Featured Gamer interview more than a month ago. If not, then she might as well clearly represent BayanDSL’s current service: SLOW.
