After months of waiting, the winners are finally out! Globe and STI had a camera-phone photography contest with the theme, “National Issues facing the 2010 Elections”. Photo above is one of my 30+ entries I submitted to Globe.
Phones I used were my father’s Nokia N95, Jepoy’s Sony Ericsson K800i, and my own Nokia N70. Photo manipulation, effects and even the phone’s built-in photo effects were not used when the entries were submitted to Globe via PixLink.
My entries revolved on poverty, hunger, water shortage, child labor, drug addiction, and the ever popular “dagat ng basura” of Manny Villar. Unfortunately, none of my 30+ entries were worthy enough to win base on the decision of the STI judges and their criteria:
- Quality of Content - 50%
- Presentation/Overall look – 40%
- Mastery of the technology and tools online – 10%
Here are the top 3 photos from the contest:
Winner – 1st Place
Winner – 2nd Place
Winner – 3rd Place
And here some of my 30+ entries. Some of them are on my phone and I’ll upload them here as soon as I get my phone back from Nokia Care. (2 photos on the gallery below were entries of Mark and Jepoy):
Do you think that tampered PCOS machines were used to pick the winner? LOL! Just kidding. I won’t rant, I’ll just let my entries speak for themselves. I don’t want some clown sprouting on my blog accusing me of being a “passive-aggressive” person and spreading lies. Right Rocky? Siopao? Jepoy? Karlo? Mark? Glen?
You may want to check my “dead” photo blog here
UPDATE
I checked the list of photos and most of my entries are not there. I have all confirmation messages and entries saved on my phone’s inbox and outbox so it’s impossible that my photos are not there. Unless someone deliberately deleted them. Also, most of my pictures have been re-sized and compressed, I wonder what happened to the original and impressive Pixlink compression technology.
Anyway, I picked 6 photos (except mine) that I think are better winners of the contest. They all fit the theme “National Issues facing the 2010 Elections”. Also, they have better presentation, quality, and overall look compared to the winners.
What do you think?

Sabi ni Glen alam na nya bakit hindi ka nanalo…
BLACK AND WHITE = DRAMA!
Winner yung 3rd place, random “informal settler” (according to Binay) lang yung picture.

As I had told Jepoy earlier via YM, it should be Noynoy’s picture over there.
He’s the greatest National Issue as of yet.
Regarding the photos, I like the 1st place. BUT I do not agree with the second and third place.

Is it just me or the winning photo underwent some photo enhancements? The grayscale colors are very sharp. Even high end phone cameras cannot output those tones by default in their B/W mode without post processing.
You can see the difference between the first and second photo. Second photo definitely came from a phone camera on B/W mode without post processing. But I could be wrong.

I’m sorry to hear about this. Globe Telecom is known to scam people and unfortunately you’re now one of them “been scammed”.
Some of your photos and other entries are better than the winners IMHO.
I also believe that your missing entries on the PIXLINK page is not an accident as your photos definitely get perfect scores on the 50% of Quality of Content and 40% on Presentation/Overall Look.
Hindi nila maluluto yung contest kung kasama yung pictures mo.

I’ve often see a lot of Photography contests and I’m not really impressed with the winners most of the time. I think there’s a need to get quality judges for this kind of competition.
Btw… care to exchange links? Thanks!
