Who doesn’t know Lola Techie (that’s tet-chie) these days? She’s the techie grandma endorser of BayanDSL and has been “actively” promoting their services online via viral videos and social networking sites. Now, after showing the technical “prowess” of Lola Techie, Bayan has launched a new campaign called Teach Lola.

The Teach Lola campaign aims to teach the elderly how to use a computer and the internet.

Teach Lola, pioneers the drive towards encouraging the younger generation to take the first step to bridge the digital divide by teaching their grandparents how to get connected to the world through the World Wide Web.

Currently composed of a total of more than 20 volunteers coming from all departments in Bayan, Teach Lola begins the campaign internally with the grandparents of the Bayan employees. After being trained by Learn.ph—Bayan’s teaching partner for the advocacy, the Teach Lola team is set to lead upcoming session and events that are geared in bringing together grandparents and their grandchildren.

And with its thrust of letting the Filipinos voice be heard—even
the elderly—the telco, through Teach Lola, makes it possible for the elderly to not only have a voice in this nternet-driven society but also to bring grandparents and their grandchildren closer together by expanding their communication to more than just special occasions.

I just can’t imagine that one day, my grandma might be playing counterstrike or Mafia Wars but who knows. I’ve already taught her to use Yahoo! Messenger to chat with my aunt in Australia, maybe I’ll start teaching her Pet Society next time.

I wonder if Bayantel’s Lola Techie is really a techie. Because if she really is, then the guys handling her Facebook or Plurk accounts should have replied to Jepoy’s request for GameOPS Featured Gamer interview more than a month ago. If not, then she might as well clearly represent BayanDSL’s current service: SLOW.

On the contrary… Techie on Lola Techie’s name is pronounced Tet-chie or Tet-chi Cruz (her name as per Bayantel’s PR).

Lola Techie’s name is different from the term techie/techy. Well of course I just read that somewhere. LOL.
